ChanHays - The Creepy Ep

Just last October, we got the debut solo album from Halifax producer ChanHays, Here. Now he comes back with an EP that feels like the epilogue, The Creepy EP. When ChanHays released Here, he decided to go the route of bringing in a long roster of guest emcees to rap over his beats. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that he takes the same approach on this EP, bringing in Ghettosocks, Guilty Simpson, Skyzoo, Joell Ortiz, Fashawn, Von Pea, Aquakultre, El Camino, Flee Lord, and Bodega Bamz.

Manikineter - Not as They Do

I used to describe Manikineter as the side project of Carl Kavorkian, but now with the release of this EP, Not As They Do, this makes the third EP released in two years under the new moniker. I don’t know quite know what to call it, but this is the project in the driver’s seat for the present and foreseeable future. What really matters is the music, and Manikineter really establishes a firm identity with Not As They Do.

Touch A.C. & Dr. Dundiff - Death

Three years ago, Louisville producer Dr. Dundiff teamed up with emcee Touch A.C., also from Louisville, to release an EP called Page of Cups. Since that time, Dr. Dundiff has also released a collaborative album with Otis Junior and a couple of solo releases, but now he’s finally reconnected with Touch A.C. and found the time to make the proper full-length follow up, Death. Now, in case you are wondering about the title of the album, both this album and the preceding EP take their name from tarot cards.

OBUXUM - H.E.R.

OBUXUM is a young producer from Toronto who has been releasing music for a couple of years now. She recently caught the ear of URBNET Records, and they have now teamed up to release her latest project, and EP called H.E.R. Just glancing at the song length on this EP, your first instinct might be to think of this as a beat tape, but that’s not the case with H.E.R. This is such a complex and multi-faceted project, it doesn’t feel anywhere close to ten-minute run time it actually has.

Del & Amp Live - Gate 13

Bay Area producer Amp Live left Zion I a couple of years ago now. Since that time, he’s released one solo instrumental EP called Atmosphere. Now he comes back with a big time collaborative album, pairing up with Bay Area legend Del the Funky Homosapien to deliver Gate 13. If you’re familiar with these artists previous work, you probably have an idea what this album could sound like, and you would be right.

Cyesm - The Man From Taured

Cyesm is a producer from Le Mans, France who has been releasing music for over a decade. His last release came just this last January, when he released his EP, Bristol. Now he comes back with a short yet thought provoking project, The Man From Taured. One of the most exciting things about Cyesm is that he has such a varied catalogue, you never know quite what to expect out of him.

Dr. Quandary - Cemetary Hands EP

In October of last year, Boston producer Dr. Quandary gave us his ambitious album, Jukebox Buddha, an album that combined instrumental tracks with vocal tracks featuring a roster of some of his usual collaborators, giving the album a cohesive narrative along the way. Now he comes back with an epilogue to that album, Cemetery Hands EP. If you spent the time with Jukebox Buddha (which you should), the formula for Cemetery Hands will immediately seem familiar.

Prof - Pookie Baby

Prof is a Twin Cities emcee who has been putting out music for over ten years now. He signed to Rhymesayers back in 2013, releasing his debut album for the label, Liability, in 2015. He now comes back with his second effort for the label with Pookie Baby. There’s nobody more divisive on the Rhymesayers label or in the Minneapolis hip hop than Prof. Why? Because Prof is an over-the-top “bad boy” character that some people can’t stand, and other’s find entertaining.

Araless - Something About You: Spring

Araless is an emcee from Seattle, who along with his solo material has worked with groups like Filthy Fingers United and Black Magic Noize. In December of 2016, he released the politically charged solo EP, Proletariat Rock. Now, does an about face and comes back with an entirely different EP, Something About You: Spring. How different is this EP from his last? I had to double check the name on the EP to make sure I had the right person and it wasn’t somebody with a similar name.

Vapor Eyes - Where the Dyad Lives

Vapor Eyes is a producer from Chicago who has been carving out his own niche for a while now. His last project, Proxima, came out just a little over a year ago. Now he follows that up with one of his most ambitious projects yet, Where the Dyad Lives. For those that aren’t familiar with the term, dyad simply means in musical terms the combination of two notes at once. For reference, your typical chord is a triad, or three notes at once.
