Cyesm is a producer from Le Mans, France who has been releasing music for over a decade. His last release came just this last January, when he released his EP, Bristol. Now he comes back with a short yet thought provoking project, The Man From Taured.

One of the most exciting things about Cyesm is that he has such a varied catalogue, you never know quite what to expect out of him. His last project, Bristol, was something of a downtempo soundtrack to a city. Before that was Dramacology, a modern classical composition. You get the idea. With The Man From Taured, we get the soundtrack to an urban legend. If you’re unfamiliar with the story, the basic gist is that in 1954, a man landed at the airport in Tokyo and tried to get through customs claiming he was from a European country called “Taured.” After arguing at the airport about the existence of this country for some time and refusing to change his story about being on a business trip, the Japanese officials decided to move him to a hotel room with a couple of officers standing guard while they investigated the situation and tried to figure out who this mysterious man was. When the officers went to check on the man in the morning, they found that he had disappeared from the room, even though they were several floors up and the window had no ledge. Whether or not there is any truth to this story, it’s a fun premise to let your imagination run wild with. The story has inspired novels and short films, and now, thanks to Cyesm, a soundtrack. The approach that Cyesm takes is one of an avant garde electronic composition. Despite the fact that the whole thing clocks in around twelve minutes long, it actually requires a certain amount of patience and understanding to absorb the material. It unfolds at a very methodical pace, but what Cyesm is doing is creating an atmosphere, something to capture the general mood of the story as it hits its beats. The result is something that falls somewhere in between Odd Nosdam’s ambient work (such as Music For Rising) and Stomu Yamash’ta’s brilliant score to The Man Who Fell To Earth. It’s beautiful, and it’s really fun to let you imagination run wild while listening to it.

It’s always something interesting and unexpected when Cyesm drops a project, and The Man From Taured is no exception. It’s challenging, beautiful, and a lot of fun to sit back and wonder about the possibilities of the story while you listen along.
