Nanna.B is a vocalist, songwriter, and musician from Denmark. She has released two EPs in the last two years, Golden and Lapis. As she released these projects and toured, she found herself connecting more and more with the Los Angeles scene. She spent a significant amount of time there and ended up connecting with some of the most respected producers in the city. These collaborations can now be heard on her debut LP, Solen.

Nanna.B doesn’t have a big voice, but she has a great tone to her voice, with a good sense of melody and harmony that fits well with her style of intimate R&B. Over the course of the album, we get production from Anderson.Paak, Astronote, Cohenbeats, Shafiq Husayn, Iman Omari, Mndsgn, C. Palmer, along with producing a few tracks herself. The overall style is a mix of prog, jazz, and R&B, all smooth, intricate, and tight as can be. There are live musicians as well, to help fill out the sound and give the album that extra bit of energy, including an appearance from Low Leaf on harp, which makes sense, as she’s probably the closest contemporary I think to compare Nanna.B to. It’s an album best enjoyed on headphones, as Nanna.B takes you on a very personal journey through her music, relating her growth as an artist and as a woman, trying to find her voice, her place, and her purpose. While the lyrics on the album are vulnerable and explore the area of uncertainty in her life, the music sounds comfortable and confident as you go on this journey with her. Of course, the most exciting thing about this album is that as good as it sounds, you also know that Nanna.B is only going to get better from here.

Nanna.B has made a big step with her first album, Solen. She has a good sense of what her musical voice is, and she’s got great control of her voice, and the confidence in herself to let her listeners in as she works through this period of self-discovery.
