Fjer is a vocalist/producer from Denmark who has already made her mark by collaborating with artists such as Lucy Camp and Substantial, along with a couple of solo EPs. Now she looks to take the next step in her career as she releases her first full-length album, You Again.

As Fjer explains, this album is about the little voice in the back of your head, the one that fills you with doubt and gets in the way of you achieving your dreams. While this is a very real thing, especially as a young adult, it is interesting to explore this theme as Fjer takes the leap and writes, self-produces, and sings all the songs on her first album. But that’s how you deal with these things if you’re an artist, and Fjer deals with them well on You Again. This is bedroom electro-soul that is one hundred percent Fjer, as she works her way through these feelings of anxiety and self-doubt, whether it be working through bad relationships or trusting herself to make music that matters and is a true reflection of herself. She doesn’t have a big voice, but she has a great tone and gentle delivery, and a great feel for her upper register. She also has a good feel for infectious rhythms and melodies and hooks that will get stuck in your head for days. The whole thing feels like you’re listening to the soundtrack to a dance party in Fjer’s bedroom, where she’s writing and singing through her feelings, finding the strength to go out and make her own path in the world. My personal favorite on the album is the infectious “Red Flag,” a dance anthem with a killer bassline and a reminder to trust the warning signs of a heartbreaker.

You Again is a great first album from a young singer/songwriter/producer with a ton of potential. She’s already got a good sense of who she is as an artist, and she’s got a great ear for pop hooks. Now that she’s worked the anxiety and trusted herself to make this album and put it out for the world to hear, I can’t wait to see where she goes from here.
