Fredfades is a producer from Oslo who has been releasing music since 2008. In that time, he’s worked with artists like Ivan Ave, Pink Siifu, Mest Seff, Blame One, Charlotte Dos Santos, and Eikrem, just to name a few. In fact, Fredfades is such a collaborative artist, it wasn’t until 2017 that he dropped his debut solo LP, Warmth. And despite the fact that he’s been fairly prolific since then, we are just now getting his second full-length solo LP, Caviar.

Over his career, Fredfades has covered a lot of ground and worked in a lot of different genres, from hip hop to soul to house to experimental electronic music, just to name a few. For Caviar, he’s indulging in his love of house and other dance music, and he’s bringing in a lot of different global influences he has picked up over the years as his career has taken him around the world and exposed him to all sorts of different subgenres. To make the album, he’s working with a classic combination of drum machines and obscure samples repurposed to hit you just right. The overall sound of the album is one that is indulgent in the best way, where warm grooves invite you onto the dance floor where we can all share in that communal space and move our bodies to the rhythm and smile and sweat together in joyous movement. Fredfades is also bringing in some friends to take the music over the top, with Arthur Kay, Kristian Hamilton, Telephones, Krushed Ice, and Bendik HK all joining Fredfades in different capacities to push the energy even higher. Krisitan Hamilton in particular gets to shine as the vocalist taking us all to church on “My Heart is on the Edge,” a classic dance single in the making.

Caviar is a great next chapter for Fredfades. He was already a clearly talented producer who could shift between different styles without missing a beat. With this album, he shows us that he can really do a deep dive in a specific genre and give us all sorts of nuance and variety, all while keeping us dancing and having a good time.
