Tanya Morgan emcee Von Pea first started collaborating with D.C. production team The Other Guys back in 2014, when they released the EP To: You. The followed that up with a full-length album that came out last year, The Fiasco. They weren’t done, though, as they’ve come back with another EP, I’m Good Luv, Enjoy.

There are a couple of interesting angles to this EP, but perhaps the one that jumps out immediately is that on five songs, we get two with the other half of Tanya Morgan, Donwill. Now, Donwill did show up on one track on The Fiasco, but there were ten other songs without him. On this EP, it just blurs the lines between solo Von Pea and Tanya Morgan a little bit more with Donwill on forty percent of the tracks. It’s not a good or bad thing, it’s just an interesting grey area that we don’t find ourselves in too often. Both tracks are great, and clearly everyone involved has chemistry, so there’s no problem at all. Getting to the larger picture, if you’ve listened to rounds one and two with Von Pea and The Other Guys, you know exactly what to expect here. There are plenty of great soul samples, and Von Pea comes with the mix of humor and heart that he and Donwill are known for. It’s the classic East Coast hip hop that all involved are known for and really good at. The real gem of the EP comes on the last song, “Get Well Soon,” which features some of the great rhymes about self-improvement, balanced with some keen observations about social issues like food deserts, and the power dynamics that cause them.

Von Pea, The Other Guys, and Donwill are basically like comfort food for hip hop fans. Just throw on this latest EP and feel right at home with some great boom bap, clever rhymes, and just tons of chemistry. You can’t go wrong here.
