TEK.LUN is a producer from Baltimore that has been putting out music since 2014. He’s been busy recently, releasing a B-sides collection, a remix collection, a “best of,” and a new album all just in June. Now he’s back to switch things up and drop a house album on everybody, Know Pressure.

While house and hip hop are cousins, the transition from one to the other isn’t always the smoothest, unless you’ve really done the work to study the forms. You have to learn different song structures, and you have to learn a different way to unfurl your melodic elements. Most importantly, though, you have to absorb the culture and really understand what people are getting out of the music. One listen to Know Pressure, and it’s clear that TEK.LUN has put in his time with house music. It takes a couple of seconds to get moving, but once you do, you’re off to the races, and its killer, pounding, pulsing grooves that will transport you to the sweaty dance floor in your mind. It’s an album that you put on and just get lost in, letting the bass bounce around your heart and letting the drums get your feet moving. TEK.LUN really understands the way that house music is about the slow development, layering piece by piece, just keeping the groove going and switching things up just a little each time through as you continue to keep everyone’s ears interested. It’s a damn shame we can’t go out to a sweaty nightclub right now, because this album just feels like a hot summer night when you’re dancing with all of your friends until you’re exhausted.

TEK.LUN switched things up with Know Pressure, but if you didn’t know any better, you’d swear that this is the type of music that he’s been making for years. It’s just that good and polished. He can do house just as well as he can do hip hop.
