Dimitris Tentinis, aka Mister T, is a producer from Kavala, Greece. Since 2011, when he joined forces with Cold Busted, he has released six LPs, with the most recent, Black Drop, coming in 2019. Now he’s back with album number seven, Soul Shower.

The good news about someone like Mister T is that there’s never a wrong time or place to jump into his catalogue. That’s because for all of the subtle innovations and changes to his music over the years, the funk remains constant, and the grooves are undeniable. On Soul Shower, he’s bringing in elements of hip hop, dub, soul, disco, and beyond, but the foundation is always funk. The drums are big, crisp, and syncopated, and the bass lines are big and heavy, providing a backbone to the album that will always have you moving your feet and hips. What makes a Mister T album enjoyable and able to stand up to repeat listens is that he’s not just content to provide some basic grooves and ride them out and call it a day. He’s treating each track like it’s a fully formed instrumental funk song that he wants to stand up against the classics of yesteryear, so you get these songs that are well composed and take you on a journey as you’re dancing. He’s also giving you a lot of variety from track to track, switching up the rhythms and melodies, which is where the different influences come in and expand the overall sound of the album. The whole thing comes together to make an album that is very easy to get into, but musically complex enough to have you coming back for more.

Soul Shower is an incredibly solid funk album from a veteran producer in Mister T. It’s musically sophisticated and adventurous, while remaining accessible and danceable. Like the rest of his catalogue, it’s sure to be a staple of dance floors across the globe.
