We are into the second week of Freecember, that time of year when Fake Four starts releasing free EPs from acts that need more attention. Last week, we got a collaboration between Iowa R&B artist Soultru and Seattle producer Progeny. This week, we get an EP from MC Homeless called Sex & Death.

This is MC Homeless, an artist from Ohio who recently collaborated with BRZOWSKI on a split release, and not the artist from Minneapolis who is best known for his work with Big Cats, just in case there was any confusion. After taking some time off from music, MC Homeless made his return with the aforementioned split release with BRZOWKSI. Now he’s back with another short project, this time produced by noise rap outfit Moodie Black. As you might guess, this EP is dark in nature, both musically and lyrically. There is a lot of distortion, feedback, and sludging beats on the EP, which helps set a bleak soundscape for MC Homeless to work through his demons. Ultimately, this EP is meant as a way to work through the darkness and get through to the other side where there is hope, but there is a lot of darkness packed into four songs and a remix on this EP. This is all to say that while there is a lot of skill to be found on this EP, it certainly won’t be for everyone in terms of tone. The drudge, the noise, and the despair can be a lot to take for most listeners, but those who are comfortable with music that lives in the unpleasant spaces of life will find a lot to like.

This is a Freecember release, not a Merry Christmas album, as MC Homeless, Moodie Black, and Fake Four have given us one of the darkest releases of December with Sex & Death. If you’re comfortable going to that place with your music, this EP will be right up your alley.
