Haz and Miloux are both artists from Auckland. Both started their careers as solo artists, but they found each other and released their first EP as a duo, Blonde, in 2019. Since that time, they’ve released a couple of singles, but now we finally get their follow up EP, Brunette.

It doesn’t take long in listening to Brunette to understand why these artists started working together. The chemistry just feels really natural with Haz on the beats and Miloux on the vocals. Haz has a knack for these really smooth and soulful downtempo beats with some space to them, and Miloux feeds off of that energy and just comes right through in the middle of everything to lay down these sweet jazz-influenced vocal lines. This music just feels good, the grooves are so enveloping, and Miloux’s voice is so soothing to listen to, it’s hard to not get lost in this EP. She’s got a strong tone to her voice, and excellent melodic instincts as well. Haz is laying down all of these tasty beats, and she just finds the right space to deliver these intimate vocals in a way that will not just reach you the first time you listen to it, they will also stay in your head because her hooks are so strong. When you put it all together, you have an EP that feels familiar the first time you listen to it, and then it just keeps growing on you with each repeat listen.

It took a minute for their second EP to arrive, but when it finally did, Haz and Miloux made it count. Brunette is a mature, thoughtful, and passionate piece of music with great production and vocals that come together in such a way to make something that is greater than the sum of its parts.
