Fybe:one is a producer from South London who started releasing music over a decade ago. His debut album, Elements, came out in 2014. Since that time, he’s done a lot of singles and remixes mostly, but he made his debut on Tru Thoughts in 2020 with the release of his EP, Sky Loops. Now he finally returns with his sophomore album, This is Ours.

The core of the album began as a collaborative project with vocalist Liam Bailey, which makes sense when you glance at the track listing and see that he’s singing on four of the eleven tracks. The great news there is that the two have great chemistry together, with Bailey’s low, rich, raspy voice making for a perfect match with Fybe:one’s sultry R&B/house/disco/hip hop style of production. From this core, Fybe:one builds out the rest of the album, mixing together a few more guest vocal spots that hit on that house/disco vibe, with Katey Brooks, Georgia Blackwell, and Breezy Lee all giving the album this mixture of soul and pop accessibility, with just a touch of diva glam thrown in for good taste. Because Fybe:one is also a deejay as well as a producer, he then rounds out the album and finds the connective tissue between these songs by including four excellent instrumental tracks as well. As to be expected, the whole album flows perfectly from front to back like a deejay who is just crushing it at this sweaty summer dance party. The beauty here, of course, is that Fybe:one just composed his own killer set in the form of this album.

This is Ours is an excellent sophomore album from Fybe:one. He seamless blends together house, hip hop, disco, soul, funk, and more, all while making sure the music is flowing from one track to the next, connecting from some excellent pop moments with his guest vocalists to some truly inspired instrumental tracks that go just as hard on the dance floor. This will be sure to get people moving through these hot summer months.
