Originally only available as a perk to those buying advanced tickets to the Therapy at 3 Tour, Eligh and Amp Live have now made their remix album available for free to all. Naturally, I was excited to hear it, as Therapy at 3 was one of the stronger releases of last fall. And not to worry, we get exactly what you might expect from a remix album - a way to rediscover and reinterpret songs we like, learning about new producers along the way.

On Therapy at 3, Amp Live and Eligh showed a great deal of chemistry, resulting in a musically adventurous album that featured some of Eligh’s most personal and introspective lyrics. In terms of source material, it’s a great starting point for a remix album. Adding to the fun, the remixes were chosen from a pool of lesser known producers (with the exception of Headnodic), so you’re likely to discover some talent that you’ve never heard before. The two did an excellent job of both picking individual tracks that are interesting and putting together a collection of songs that flows well and provides a varied take on their original album. Some make the music more pop-oriented, others take it in a dance direction, others go dub-step…Lana Shea even goes as far as to recreate “Ms. Meteor” as an acoustic singer-songwriter number. Each listener is obviously going to have their own preference for favorite takes on the material. My personal favorites include the James Melo remix of “Guides,” Natasha Adorlee’s remix of “Devil’s Medicine,” Njin’s remix of “What’s in a Name,” and the Jetman remix of “L.A. Dreamers.”

This remix album is exactly what you’d expect from two veteran producers like Eligh and Amp Live, and they’ve given exposure to some exciting talent. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more from these producers. I know I’ll be on the lookout for them.
