Small Professor - Can't Trap My Mind

Small Professor is a producer from Philly who has been releasing music for over a decade. He’s collaborated with everyone from Curly Castro to Guilty Simpson, and he’s been part of groups like Them That Do. Over the years, he’s also been releasing quality instrumental projects at a steady pace, most notably his different “Jawn” collections. His latest collection of jawns is Can’t Trap My Mind. In general, Small Professor’s sound over the years has been defined by his knack for building beats around seamlessly combining samples from old jazz and soul records, done with a subtly and knack for midtempo grooves that will instinctively get your head nodding.

Batsauce - Shelter Skelter

Batsauce is a producer originally from Jacksonville, but now residing in Berlin. Over the years, he has collaborated with artists like Qwazaar, Hellsent, Wax, and Dillon. His last solo release came in 2018, when he released a project called Nomads Almanac Vol. 1. Now he’s put together a soundtrack for our times, Shelter Skelter. For this project, Batsauce is literally combing the soundtracks to different vintage science fiction movies that deal with pandemics.

Shabazz Palaces - The Don of Diamond Dreams

It’s wild to think that a little over ten years ago, most of us didn’t know if we’d ever hear from Ishmael Butler again. The artist formerly known as Butterfly performed as one-third of the group Digable Planets in the early ‘90s to great acclaim, but couldn’t get any traction in the early ‘00s when he formed a new act called Cherrywine. After a period of silence, though, Butler teamed up with Tendai Maraire to form a new group called Shabazz Palaces, making some of the most experimental and challenging music of his career.

RJD2 - The Fun Ones

RJD2 is a producer from Columbus that exploded onto the scene back in the early ‘00s, with the brilliant one-two punch of Deadringer and Since We Last Spoke. Since that time, he’s given us a wide variety of projects, collaborating with artists such as Aceyalone and Aaron Livingston, and developing side projects live The Insane Warrior. His last album as RJD2, Dame Fortune, came in 2016. Now he returns with one of his strongest projects in years, The Fun Ones.

Terem - Beautiful Morning

If you’re familiar with the Seattle-based Christian hip hop label illect, you probably think of artists like Ozay Moore, Sareem Poems & Newselph, Sivion, or Rel McCoy when you think of the label, artists that deliver soulful boom bap informed by their Christian beliefs and their love of hip hop from the early ‘90s. However, that’s not the only thing that illect has delivered over the years. One of the artists that doesn’t fit this mold is a French producer by the name of Terem.

Loden - Paraiso

Loden is a producer from Belgium who has been releasing music since the mid-‘00s, working with labels like Mush and Circle Into Square. He’s also produced tracks for the likes of Open Mike Eagle and Sole, just to name a few. We last heard from him two years ago, when he released the album Lit For Exits (Extinct) and followed that with an EP called ‘t Geruis. Now we get a new full-length album, Paraiso.

See'J Foster - Interview 4-13-20

These days See’J Foster might be best known as one-third of the Mobile group Basshead Jazz. He’s been on a journey over the last five years, moving to New York, coming back home, starting a new group, and throwing shows in Mobile. Then, in March of 2019, one day after his 73rd birthday, his father had a stroke and passed away suddenly. This left Foster to take stock of his journey and put things into perspective.

JB Nimble & Deacon LF - BUNNY

JB Nimble is an emcee currently living in New York, but formerly spent time in the bay, where he teamed up with artists such as OneWerd. His most recent album came just last August, when he dropped his solo album Moondog Orchestra. Now he has teamed up with New York producer Deacon LF for the full-length album, BUNNY. First things first – while this album was released on Easter and it is titled BUNNY, the album itself is not Easter-themed.

Andrew - W.O.T.W.

Over the past few years, Philly’s Ialive and Baltimore’s Height Keech have been putting together impressive discographies, whether it be as solo artists, working together on an album like Timewave Zero, or working separately with other artists like Ardamus and Height Keech’s Astro Blocks or Ialive’s collection of collaborations, I’ll Wait Forever. Now, after all this time, they’ve finally decided to pair up officially as a production duo called Necessary People.

Gajah - Warm Glow Giver (remixes and stuff)

Gajah is a Los Angeles emcee that has been working for years as both a solo artist and as one third of the group Acid Reign. His last release was Vent, an album with Mute Speaker, a British producer now residing in Cambodia, which came out in 2018. Now, with everyone in quarantine, Gajah has gone to the vaults and assembled Warm Glow Giver (remixes & stuff). Fortunately, the title of this release spells everything out for you, so you can adjust your expectations accordingly right from the jump.
