As the decade winds to a close it makes sense to take a step back and take stock of everything that’s happened in the past ten years. In the case of Brzowksi, that means going through the vaults and shedding light on songs that for one reason or another haven’t been released before. The result is the fourth volume of B-sides and rarities for him, Blooddrive Vol. 4.

Hip hop is by nature a collaborative genre of music, and Brzowski has done his fair share over the years. Over the course of twenty-two tracks, we get a plethora of guests on the compilation. On the mic, we get appearances from heirMAX, Cainam, kidDEAD, Ialive, Swordplay, Strawhair, Elucid, Swordplay, Brandon Brains, Spoken Nerd, Monsieur Sai, Onewerd, N.I.C., billy woods, and Renee Coolbrith. On the beats, we get production from Brzowski himself, along with C$Burns, PT Burnem, Vinyl Cape, Moshe, 80HRTZ, Dot, Pierre the Motionless, Phantom Farmer, Dakota, Onewerd, D-FAZ, Willie Green, Variex, 247, Haunted Days, and Witch’s Teat. That’s a lot of information to digest, and it also means that we get a lot of different styles over the course of the collection. The interesting thing here is that the way this plays out, this comp is best served for both the most dedicated fans and the newcomers. The true blue can catch up on all of these interesting one-offs that they missed over the years, and newcomers can come and sample all the different sides of what Brzowski has to offer as an artist. You get everything from metal to experimental electronic to underground hip hop to folk and prog rock and everything in between. You get the metal singer, you get the growling rocker, you get the spoken word artist, you get the guy with bars. Maybe you’ll like all of it, but you certainly will like at least some of it.

Brzowski pushes the envelope with his music and his lyrics, and he’s always trying out different things, and this comp does an excellent job of showing all the different risks he’s taken over the course of the last decade. There will be disagreement based on taste over what percentage of this comp really works, but any fan of experimental hip hop is going to enjoy a clear majority of the tracks on this album.
