Anzola - Bodega

Anzola is a Venezuela-born/Toronto-based musician who made his debut on URBNET in 2020 with the release of his EP, Caracas. After teasing us with a couple of singles in 2021, Anzola is now back with his new EP, Bodega. Since the release of Caracas, Anzola spent much of his time in pandemic lockdown in Toronto, which inspired him to really dive into rebuilding his home studio. This in turn led him to play a lot with the layout of different gear, which as any musician can tell you, will in turn affect the way that you interact with the equipment and combine tools and effects.

Mourning [A] BLKstar - Celestial Bodies

Mourning [A] BLKstar is a group founded in Cleveland in 2015 by RA Washington. The producer/bass player shaped the group by recruiting a trio of powerful vocalists and paired with live horns, drums, guitar, and keys, along with his own sampling/production. The result is an incredibly unique sound, one that they’ve continued to hone in their time together. Their 2020 album, The Cycle, was named the best album of the year right here at Scratched Vinyl.

Sole & DJ Pain 1 - Post American Studies

Sole has been through several phases of his career, whether it be as a solo artist and co-founder of anticon., reinventing himself with The Skyrider Band, or his side project as Mansbestfriend. In 2014, he began another phase when he teamed up with producer DJ Pain 1 to release the full-length album Death Drive. Fast forward to 2022, and we now have their fourth album as a duo, Post American Studies.

Thorts & Haunted Days - Hanky Man

Thorts is an emcee from Bunbury, Australia. He has been releasing music for a while, but he’s been especially prolific in the last few years. Just last year, he released short projects with Bobz Ya Uncle, Jack Vaul, DJ Silence, Joel Siméus, and Whatever Cecil. Now, in 2022, he’s teamed up with French Producer Haunted Days to release a full-length album on El Gran E Records, Hanky Man. While the title of the album might be a bit of a mystery to American readers, if you make to the last track, which is also the title track, Thorts will make everything clear as he’s referring to his handkerchief, which he always keeps handy.

Hajino x Duncecap - Go Climb a Tree

Duncecap is an emcee from Brooklyn who has been releasing music for the past eight years as a solo artist, but he’s also worked as part of The Karma Kids. He made his debut on Backwoodz Studioz in 2019 EP miserable then, produced by ELUCID. His most recent album came in 2020, when he dropped Resting Dunce Face. Now he’s back with a new project, teaming up with Brooklyn producer Hajino to release Go Climb a Tree.

Peter Matson - The Right Way

Peter Matson is a Brooklyn-based deejay/producer/multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with the group Underground System. In 2019, he stepped out as a solo artist to drop Short Trips EP on Bastard Jazz. Now he’s making his return to the label with another EP, The Right Way. For this EP, Matson is taking us back to the early ‘80s, finding that sweet spot when disco was giving way to electro-boogie, house, and more.

deacon lf - Spaceydanceymoodybroody

deacon lf is a producer from Brooklyn who has been releasing music for about the last five years. Most notably, he teamed up with emcee JB Nimble to release the album Bunny in 2020. Since that time, he’s released a few singles and remixes, but now he returns with a new full-length album, Spaceydanceymoodybroody. Spaceydanceymoodybroody is an album that sneaks up on you, seeming quite simple and straightforward at first, and then before you know it, you’re at the end of a hell of a musical ride.

Suff Daddy - Basically Sober

Suff Daddy is a producer from Berlin who has been releasing music for about fifteen years. He made his debut on Jakarta in 2016, when he released Birdsongs. Most recently, he teamed up with producer Elaquent in 2020 to release Misery Funk in 2020. Now he’s back with a new solo instrumental album, Basically Sober. It doesn’t take long into Basically Sober to get why Suff Daddy has become one of the most respected instrumental hip hop artists working today.

Jimetta Rose - The Gift: Around The Way Queen

Jimetta Rose is an artist from Los Angeles who has been putting out music for fifteen years. Her last album, The Light Bearer, came out in 2016. She is now back with a project that began in 2014, The Gift – Around The Way Queen. The roots of the project techincally goes back even further than 2014, because Jimetta Rose and DJ House Shoes actually first met when they teamed up to make the track “Castles” on House Shoes’ 2012 album, Let It Go.
