The Other Guys are a production duo from D.C. who have been releasing music for about a decade, working with artists like Von Pea, Substantial, and Rob Cave along the way. Back in 2019, they released an instrumental EP called Summer in Analog. It went over so well, they decided to make it a seasonal series. That went so well, they just kept making additional volumes, taking us now to Winter in Analog: Season 3.

I would say that The Other Guys are getting this volume in just under the wire as spring is just around the corner, but then we just had snow in Alabama the morning that I’m typing this, so maybe it’s right on time. If you’ve spent the time with previous volumes, you know what to expect. The Other Guys make excellent East Coast boom bap, with each volume slightly tilted in a specific tone and direction to reflect the mood of that particular season. That means that for Winter in Analog: Season 3, we’re getting beats that might be a little more cooler, calmer, and pensive. You know, that winter reflection soundtrack. As a result, this makes for great music to listen to on you headphones as you step outside and brave the cold and soak in the world around you. The Other Guys have been at this for a minute, and they are good at their job, but every once in a while you get a flex that reminds you of just how good they really are. In this case, it’s their brilliant flip of a busy jazz guitar riff on “Everything in Sync,” which they perfectly juxtapose with some more laid back elements that helps the riff feel like it actually has more room to breath within the beat. It’s not an easy feat, but The Other Guys make it look easy.

Winter in Analog: Season 3 is another excellent addition to The Other Guys seasons series of releases. It’s a solid collection of beats that nicely reflect the mood of the season, and maybe just takes the edge off of the cold a little bit.
