ParanormL is an Los Angeles emcee who’s been releasing music for over a decade now. It’s been a few years since his last release, The Golden Error, which was made in collaboration with K-Murdock as The Star Seeds. Now he’s finally back with a new EP, G8-64.

With four tracks produced by Fuso, this EP is straight to the point without a lot of frills. We get some smooth, laid back, West Coast beats, and then some top-notch lyricism from ParanormL. We do get a guest appearance from Lord Zen of Visionaries fame, who fits right alongside ParanormL as an emcee, since both have these low-key, smooth deliveries on the mic that seem to hide just how much wordplay they are throwing down. Lyrically, it’s a mix of philosophical musings, clever wordplay, and some heartfelt pleas for people to come together and do the work of building our communities up. There might not be a big hook or any bangers on this EP, but it is something you can put on and chill out to, and let yourself get lost in the spaced out grooves and condensed lyrics. On top of that, there are some really heartfelt messages within the EP that will allow you connect with the music on a deeper level the more you listen to it.

G8-64 isn’t a huge return from an emcee who’s been quiet for a few years, but it is lowkey a really strong step from a veteran who knows what he’s doing and is probably just getting warmed up. He’s got a great effortless flow that fits alongside Fuso’s production perfectly, as they spin some great underground hip hop from the West Coast that will get your head nodding. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for his next outing.
