2017 might not have been the best year for Offsite for personal reasons, but it was a good year for him musically. After have two releases earlier in the year, Offsite snuck in one last three-song EP, titled Tri.

The two releases that came earlier this year, cleaning out my conscience and lvls may vary, dealt with the loss of a close friend who took his own life. It’s a tough thing to go through, but luckily Offsite had his music as an outlet to try to process everything he was going through. Now, a few months later, we get Tri, which seems to put a cap on this particular point in his life. The production comes from Мишка, hiko momoji, and olive oil, all delivering some absolutely beautiful downtempo beats, which provides the perfect platform for Offsite to drop his introspective rhymes. Offsite has a flow that is both a little melodic in it’s delivery, but also very conversational. It often feels like he’s in the room with you, just talking through his feelings as he not only deals with loss, but also tries to sort out his life as a young man trying to find his way in the world. It’s a short release, but there’s so much lyrical and emotional depth to the three songs that it feels like a much more substantial release than that.

No one should ever have to go through what Offsite went through this past year, but if you find yourself in similar circumstances, at least you have this cathartic hip hop to help you deal with the pain. I commend him for putting himself out there and making himself vulnerable in this way. Now, I hope we’re able to get some happier music from him in 2018.
