Bay Area emcee Memphis Reigns has been having a busy 2022. In June, he released an album with QM called Reign Clouds. He then came right back in August with an EP with Sankofa called Harikum’s Revenge. He then came back in September with a solo EP, Gumiho. Still not done, he’s right back in October with a collaborative EP with Portland producer Kid Forever, Track Record.

Kid Forever isn’t that well known yet, with just one beat tape to his name, but when you listen to Track Record, you’ll quickly understand why Memphis Reigns wanted to work with him. That’s because Kid Forever is laying down some tasty West Coast boom bap with some great grooves, the kind where Memphis Reigns can just sit in the pocket and start rhyming like he’s been doing for years. The EP opens with the sweet comic book nostalgia of “Super Powers,” and from there we get a little bit of everything, from some fun shit talk to some honest rhymes about the struggle to find a balance with the daily grind. It’s a short project, but it’s fun and accessible, with lots of great beats, hooks, and rhymes. It’s just two artists coming together, staying true to themselves, and having fun in the process. It’s that chemistry between Memphis Reigns and Kid Forever that makes the EP especially enjoyable. You can just feel how Memphis Reigns is feeding off of the energy of Kid Forever’s beats.

Track Record is a straightforward release from Memphis Reigns and Kid Forever. There’s not a lot of frills, just solid West Coast hip hop that will get your head nodding and fill you up with some soulful tunes.
