Kadesh Flow - Room Service
Written by Chi Chi Thalken on April 2, 2018Kansas City artist Kadesh Flow is probably best known right now for his appearances with Mega Ran, but the young artist is about to kick things up a notch. He starts off the year with the first of a couple of planned releases, an EP called Room Service.
It’s been about three years since we got a solo release from Kadesh Flow, but the young man started making moves last year to put things in motion. The biggest step was quitting his day job and betting on himself as a musician. As you begin to listen to Room Service, that’s exactly what you’ll hear out of Kadesh Flow – an artist who’s very hungry and motivated to make his voice heard. This particular EP was recorded at MAGfest (Music and Gaming Festival, held in Maryland in January. By that, I don’t mean that this is a live recording, but that Kadesh Flow got together with his friends Atlas and Bill Beats in a hotel room in between shows and panels and had to focus in on some intense moments of creativity. And that’s what you hear when your press play on Room Service – music that is bursting with energy and intensity, because Kadesh Flow had to make his time count if he was going translate these creative ideas into something tangible that people could listen to. The overall sound of the EP is in the ballpark of trap, at least on the production side of things, but then then these three producers put their own flair to the beats to make them their own. On the mic, Kadesh Flow comes at you with his raspy voice and versatile flow as he discusses his recent life story and his desire to have a seat at the table as a Southern Black Nerd who loves anime, hip hop, and plays trombone. Oh, did I not mention that yet? Yes, on top of producing and rhyming, this dude can play a mean trombone as well. Of course, this isn’t revealed until the end of the fifth of six songs, “FYI,” which ends in something of a fugue as the song comes to a close. This leads into “Progression (Resolutions, Part II),” which is built around a trombone riff as Kadesh makes a promise to himself and his supporters that this is just step one in the next phase of his career. On top of all this, we also get some guest appearances from Eye-Q, Shubzilla, O.Super that give the EP just a little more flavor and help bring the collaborative energy up to that next level.
If Room Service is the appetizer for 2018, I can’t wait to hear what else Kadesh Flow is cooking up for us. This is an EP that is bursting with passion, creativity, and vision. One listen and you’ll know exactly who Kadesh Flow is and what he’s all about. The best part is just knowing that this is only the tip of the iceberg for him.
