Dr. Dundiff - Muneybeats
Written by Chi Chi Thalken on February 17, 2018Dr. Dundiff is a producer from Louisville who has been putting out music since 2010, best known for his collaborations with Otis Junior. Their last album together, Hemispheres, came out in March of last year. Now Dr. Dundiff comes back with an instrumental release, Muneybeats.
Muneybeats is pretty straightforward with it’s expectations, laid out at the beginning with the now classic sample from The Office about money beets. This is a beat tape at it’s core, but these aren’t unformed demo beats. Dr. Dundiff is giving you his money beats – these are sophisticated, developed beats that knock. This isn’t a headphones-friendly, gentle downtempo instrumental album. It’s an instrumental album that sounds amazing coming through your speakers at a loud volume, really filling up the room. Dr. Dundiff has knack for really rich production that fills up the entire spectrum, from some booming bass all the way through the middle to the treble. Dr. Dundiff also does a great job of keeping up the variety in his rhythms, so you never get lulled to sleep by hearing the same groove over and over. So while it’s not necessarily a groundbreaking album or anything, Muneybeats is an incredibly solid, fun, and varied album that will get your head bobbing and your toes tapping.
Dr. Dundiff hasn’t gotten nearly enough shine for his talents as a producer. In a lot of other hands, this release would have become generic very quickly. In his hands, Muneybeats, while still remaining a beat tape, sounds a lot more fresh and fun than 90% of the beat tapes that you will hear this year.
