Back in 2016, Atlanta label Full Plate started a beat series called Clean Plate Club, with the first volume coming courtesy of Jacksonville producer Paten Locke. Shortly thereafter, we got contributions from Willie Evans Jr. and Batsauce. Then people got busy with other projects, especially with Dillon, who released a collaborative album and EP with Batsauce, and a full length solo album as well. Now he’s ready to pick up the Clean Plate series and give us his own beat tape.

Given his recent output, it’s perfectly understandable that you’d think of Dillon as an emcee, but the truth is that he’s no novice on the production side of things, either. That will become abundantly clear when you listen to Clean Plate Club Vol. 4. Not only does this thing absolutely slap, but Dillon is giving all sorts of fun and interesting veteran touches along the way. While there is an overall uptempo boom bap vibe to the tape, Dillon finds plenty of room for rhythmic variation, and squeezes in some different styles like 8-bit production to keep things interesting as well. The party keeps moving across the tape, and Dillon makes sure that it never gets stale, either. He also finds a lot of fun ways to sneak in his name via a plethora of samples saying the name out loud, along with filling the tape with well-placed comedic samples along the way that reference food, plates, eating and so forth to keep on theme. The whole thing plays like an old school beat tape that would get passed around and get everyone’s creative juices flowing and get the party started.

Dillon has been at this for a minute, and it’s nice to not only see the Clean Plate Club resuscitated, but to also shine a spotlight on Dillon’s skills as a producer. Dude’s got beats, as is evident by his entry here.
