Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio is a group out of Seattle who released their first album in 2016. Since that time, they have firmly established themselves as a crossover success story, through a combination of good promotion from Colemine Records, consistent touring, and just some damn good organ-led jazz. Their last album, I Told You So, came out in January of 2021. Now they are back with their third full-length album, Cold as Weiss.

The name of the album refers to the establishment of Dan Weiss (of the Sextones) as the trio’s permanent drummer, which has been the position within the group that has seen a few different faces in their short history. Hopefully Weiss isn’t going anywhere, because you can hear just how tight he plays with Lamarr on Organ and Jimmy James on Guitar. Over the course of the album, the trio is bringing you a mix of blues, funk, jazz, and soul that will get your feet tappin’ and your head noddin’. The real key to DLOT is not just how talented each individual player is (they are all top notch), but how clever they are with their arrangements that they are able to fill up your speakers and get you dancing without you really noticing just how sparse the instrumentation on each track is. Instead, you can just let yourself get lost in the rich and bright organ sounds, the twang of the guitar, and the drums that are always in motion and keeping you from sitting still. When it all comes down to it, these are three musicians who clearly understand each other and enjoy playing with each other, and that joy comes through with each song.

Devlon Lamarr Organ Trio have grown a lot over the last six years, and Cold as Weiss is their best album to date. The musicianship is through the roof, and the killer funk will warm your soul.
