Cyesm is a producer from Le Mans, France, who has been making and releasing music for about twenty years now. Just last year, we got two projects from him, Times and Places and Dramacology. Wasting no time getting 2018 started, he comes back with his Bristol EP.

One of the great things about following someone like Cyesm, is that he’s covered so much ground in his career, you never know exactly what you’re going to get from each release, you just now that it’s going to be good. On Bristol, we get a really beautiful and moody downtempo EP, one with really rich and full production that will sound great on either headphones or your speakers. Cyesm has been at this for a while, and one of the ways that you can tell that he’s really studied and fine-tuned his craft is the ways in which each song appears simple on the surface, but then upon closer examination, you find all of these brilliant moving pieces to each arrangement. The EP leans on string arrangements and downtempo hip hop beats, which could easily become generic and forgettable, but Cyesm is thoughtful and precise with his compositions, he not only avoids that pitfall, he deliver some highly memorable and moving instrumental hip hop instead. It’s the type of release that you can put on and just loose yourself in, and then wonder how long you’ve been listening to it once it reaches the end, even though it’s only nineteen minutes long. It’s also the type of release that you can listen to actively, with ears perked as you try to catch the intricate ways in which melodies and counter melodies play off basslines and drum hits. There’s a lot going on with Bristol.

Cyesm has had a long and varied career, delivering all sorts of interesting projects along the way. Bristol is another excellent and moving release to add to an excellent discography.
