Calvin Valentine is an emcee/producer originally from Eugene, but he’s been based in Los Angeles for a few years now. Just this past April, he gave us his Save the Planet project. Now he’s back with a different look, teaming up with producer Lawz Spoken as The Green Team to give you the buddy action comedy EP, High Noon at Cobra Island.

Look, 2020 has been stressful as fuck, and sometimes you need your music to be a form of escape. If that’s the case, Calvin Valentine and Lawz Spoken have got you. The beats might be serious from a musical standpoint, but this whole EP is about letting loose to some fat West Cost beats, smoking some weed with your friends, hanging out, cutting up, and making music. And if that’s what you’re looking for right now, The Green Team are delivering a really good version of this. The beats are really tight, and while Valentine isn’t going much beyond weed, music, movies, and hanging out with his lyrics, he’s still a talented emcee with a good flow, so you’re not sacrificing skill level by listening to this EP. You’re just loosing yourself in something playful and not that serious, which is fine. You also get a ton of friends stopping by to get in on the fun, with appearances from Speak, Bravo, ePP, C Plus, Theory Hazit, and Celly. The whole thing is just about that release and allowing yourself to giggle and cut up with your friends for a minute.

It’s been a tough year, and it’s good to have an escape ever now and then. High Noon at Cobra Island is a fun time with some talented stoners cutting up and having fun for seven tracks, with movie references thrown back and forth and plenty of guest artists making it feel like the party you can’t go to right now.
