Brycon is a Bay Area producer who is already having a very busy 2022. In January, he released a full-length album with Equipto, Can’t Stay Perched All The Time. In February, he came right back with a full-length album with Professa Gabel, Corner Booth. Not wasting any time, he’s now back in March with a collaborative beat tape with Gahn, Gradskool.

Of the projects Brycon has released this year, Gradskool might be his most straightforward of the three. That’s because this is a very no frills type of project. Do you like funky beats built off of obscure samples from some serious crate digging? Yes? You like them gritty, soulful, and maybe just a little dusty? Yes? Then Brycon and Gahn have given you a nice oasis to forget about the world and just nod along to some great grooves for about a half hour. The fun thing here is that while if you know your Bay Area producers, you probably know Brycon, but Gahn has been a bit more quiet and more of a behind the scenes type of guy. Hopefully, this project will highlight his ability as a producer enough that he’ll start featuring his beats a bit more, cause he can clearly hang with the best of them.

Gradskool isn’t anything too fancy, but for what it is – a beat tape from two talented producers – it’s great. It’s just seven solid beats full of funky rhythms, clever sample flips, and good feelings.
