Back in 2016, producer Big Deep of the New York production team known as 2 Hungry Bros. was talking with fellow producer Dirt E. Dutch, when the conversation led to emcee Breez Evahflowin’. After an extended hiatus, they knew he had recently started making music again. Before they knew it, Dutch had put Deep and Breez together, and they producer the 2017 EP Bring Out Your Dead under the name Deep Breez. Now, three years later, they have gotten back together for another round, this time simply titled Deep Breez 2.

The first thing to know about this EP is that both of these artists are NYC AF. They grew up there, and their roots go deep in the style and the culture that the city developed over the years. Deep creates these great beats that are gritty and raw, while still maintaining some sweet soul to them. There is also some incredibly clever and intricate flipping and chopping up and layering of samples happening on the EP, but this is a style that Deep has been perfecting for years. On the mic, Breez has a nice resonance and rasp to his voice, deliberate pacing, and a knack for talking his shit and telling some stories. When it all comes together, Deep Breez is giving you some classic East Coast hip hop, somewhere in that sweet spot in between Ghostface and Mobb Deep. Add in some guest appearances from Punchline, Von Pea, RedBaren907, UG, and DJ Static, and it doesn’t get more classic than this. It’s throwback without sounding dated, just some head-nodding goodness that you can keep returning to and catching more nuance each time through.

Breez and Deep had such good chemistry the first time through, it’s great to see them back for round 2. Deep Breez 2 is all killer no filler, just six solid tracks from two of New York’s finest.
