Just this past September, we got the debut EP from the new Birmingham duo known as Boom Bap Babies. Consisting of longtime friends and collaborators Shaun Judah and Rynea Soul, they finally decided to officially become a group for real, and their debut was a delight. Now they’ve come right back with a little something to lift your soul during these heavy times, We’ll Fly EP.

Like the name implies and their first EP confirmed, this is a group that came up on that classic ‘90s boom bap, and this is them getting to their roots and doing their best version of it. For this particular EP, we’re getting right into that midtempo range, where producer Rynea Soul can lay down these really tasty grooves with this really bright and breezy sound to them. This tone matches perfectly to what Shaun Judah is laying down on the mic, where he hops on and spits some rhymes that move from introspective to daydreaming to making some calls to action for himself and you to make our world just a little bit better. It’s a style of music that you’ve heard before, but when it’s done as well as Boom Bap Babies are doing it on this EP, you really don’t care. You just care that Rynea Soul is such a talented and knowledgeable musician that she’s able to add all of these little nuances to the production that is already steady rocking that you can keep listening over and over and catching something new each time through. You also just care that Shaun Judah can hop in these big fat pockets that Rynea Soul is creating and just pour his heart out on the mic, all with great skill and technical ability, along with some really thoughtfully paced flows that don’t just deliver on substance, but rhythmically and musically as well.

We’ll Fly EP is just the ray of sunshine and moment of escape we need right now. Rynea Soul and Shaun Judah have great chemistry together, and on this EP they’ve come together to make some really beautiful and soulful hip hop that will lift your spirit.
