Blossom is a producer from Poland who has been releasing music for about the last five years. His most recent effort came just this January, when he released an EP called Figures with a guitar player named Wookie. Now he’s back with a new solo effort, Terra Incognita.

With only seven tracks to the project, there is a temptation to call this release an EP, but when those seven tracks come in around 32 minutes in length, we are getting closer to an LP. Whatever you do want to call Terra Incognita, the point is that on this project, Blossom is giving himself enough time and space to really develop his material and craft some songs that really take you on a journey from beginning to end. Dedicating the album to his daughter, and naming the third track after her, “Laura,” you can definitely tell this was a project full of love. It’s beautifully and carefully constructed, and it takes you through a wide range of instrumental material, from goth synth-pop to East Asian classical music to dub to hip hop to house. It can be dark and eerie, it can be serene and gorgeous, and all things in between. It’s the type of release that you can listen to on your headphones and just escape from the world for a minute and lost yourself in the music. Blossom does an excellent job not just within each track, but in the way the project connects from track to track and unfolds over the course of these seven songs. You really feel like you’ve been taken on an emotional journey from start to finish.

Blossom has had a nice career so far, but nothing has been as strong or as ambitious as Terra Incognita. It’s an absolutely beautiful project that really showcases Blossom’s songwriting ability, along with what we already knew he could do as a producer. Most importantly, this is a really heartfelt tribute to his daughter.
