Back in April of this year, Seattle artist Araless threw fans for a loop when the guy who just dropped a politically charged EP called Proletariat Rock came back with an EP full of smooth R&B called Something About You: Spring. It was a change of pace, for sure, but it was also fantastic. The good news is that Spring was just the beginning, and now Summer is here.

Nothing was broke with Something About You: Spring, so Araless continues to work with producer OK on Summer as well. What that means is that we once again get this smooth, modern R&B production, with these incredibly warm bass lines. There’s also this really subtle bounce to the rhythm that keeps everything flowing, with a little bit of house influence, while not taking away from the melody. On the mic, Araless once again proves that he belongs in conversation with your favorite R&B singers, with just an incredibly strong tone to his voice, and a great feel for melody that will just immediately stick in your head. On top of all of this, just as soon as you’re getting comfortable and expecting an easy landing going into the last track, Araless steps on the gas and gives you as remix of “Intertwine” by illvaughn that takes you from “a little house-inluenced” into deep house. If you were gently swaying along to the EP, you’re feet and hips will definitely get moving when this song hits.

Something About You: Summer is the perfect continuation of the first EP in this series, and will give you that smooth, romantic R&B that you can dance to on these hot summer nights. Not only is this EP a lot of fun to listen to, we’ve also got something to look forward to as summer turns into fall.
