Amerigo Gazaway is best known for his amazing mashup projects, such as Fela Soul, The Miseducation of Eunice Waymon, and Yasiin Gaye, just to name a few. However, he is so much more than that, working on scores for documentaries and video games, collaborating with other artists, and even just original solo material. As we head into these uncertain times, Gazaway gives us a soundtrack with Solitude.

Don’t fret – Solitude isn’t going to make you feel sad or lonely or anything of the sort. No, this is more about finding the inner peace that comes in solitude. He does this by providing us with eight beautiful, meditative tracks that flow gently from one into the next. By nature of the project, it won’t necessarily blow you away at first, but as you spend time with it, all of the intricate moving pieces and the care that Gazaway put into the project will reveal themselves. Gazaway is incorporating elements of jazz, soul, and classical to create these lush soundscapes that will envelope you as a listener, dance around your head, and help you get into the right headspace to really meditate and look inward. He does such a good job in creating this soundscape, I often lost track of time while listening to Solitude, as my mind would wander through the clouds as the music played out.

Solitude isn’t a project that seems all that unique on the surface, but once you spend some time with it and trust in Gazaway’s vision, everything will open up and you’ll go on a short and beautiful journey. Gazaway put a lot of care and effort into this project to create some music that will help you through these strange days that might get a little bit lonely. When you’ve got the proper soundtrack, alone time doesn’t have to be sad or lonely, and Gazaway has given us just that with Solitude.
