Amerigo Gazaway - SEASONS: Shades of Autumn
Written by Chi Chi Thalken on November 1, 2022Amerigo Gazaway is a producer who is now based in Zagreb, although he was based in the Bay Area and Nashville before that. More than a decade into releasing music, he has become best known for his mash-up projects, such Fela Soul or The Miseducation of Eunice Waymon. He’s also been working on original production projects along the way, whether it be video game soundtracks or collaborative projects. To that end, he released an instrumental project in 2019 called Endless Sumer, and followed that up with Endless Summer Nights in 2020. Now he’s returned to the series to give us SEASONS: Shades of Autumn.
The concept of this project is written into the title – these are instrumental songs to give you that feeling of cool air, leaves changing color, and the days getting shorter. Gazaway then expands upon that initial theme, drawing upon nature documentaries, old jazz recordings, and ‘70s library music as he explores themes of love and longing. There are a couple of vocal clips spread throughout, but mostly this project is about finding the right samples and break beats and flipping them to create the appropriate mood, while also laying down some dope hip hop tracks. This isn’t Gazaway’s first rodeo, and he’s clearly up to the challenge, giving you a nice collection of instrumental hip hop that will have you nodding your head and getting all in your feelings as you button up your flannel shirt and find your jacket before you head outside. This is definitely the type of project that you want to listen to on your headphones, where you can really soak in Gazaway’s beautiful and melancholy production while you travel around town and feel the cool air on your face.
SEASONS: Shades of Autumn is a nice companion piece to Gazaway’s previous summer releases. It’s cool, sophisticated, and funky, just like you’d want your fall soundtrack to be.
